In a large pan, cook the onion and the garlic in the oil over a medium heat, stirring until the onion is softened.
Add the beans, and mash half of them coarsely with the back of a wooden spoon.
Add the tomato sauce, cumin, chillies, and salt and black pepper to taste. Keep stirring and simmer for three to five minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.
Stir in the coriander. Work with one warmed pita bread at a time and keep the others covered, spread about three tablespoons of the filling down the centre of each pita. Serve.
